Nikau Kai's Fifth Annual Supsquatch Invitational

One of our favorite events that we do all year. It's the thrill of catching waves with friends and the agony of capsizing on of a 2' wave. Feel free to come join us if you're in town this 4th of July. We'll be gathering and surfing from 7:30-10:30 on the north side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. We'll have some Some snacks to share or feel free to bring some of your own. This is always a fun event and a great morning on the water.

First Impressions - GoFoil GL140 vs. GL180

This morning I had the chance to finally ride the GL140 From @Gofoil… I’ve been riding the GL180 Pretty exclusively for the past five months with the pedestal flat tail for the most part. Really just focusing on connecting waves and flying as long as possible per takeoff. The 180 has gotten me to a place where on occasion a 5 or 6 wave connection isn’t unheard of. The 140 has been all the buzz since I got my 180, literally, they announced it a week after I got the 180 which was in and of itself extremely hard to track down. There's no place quite like Namuto, Fiji and that was the our home for the week... and what a week it was. Sometimes when you take a surf trip you score and get swell at the beginning of the trip or wait patiently for one at the end of the trip. Rarely do you get three different swells in one visit and lucky for us, that’s what we got served. On this trip we were all there to foil at one of Dave Kalama's epic Kalama Kamps. So basically, we weren’t looking for big gnarly waves, just decent size and warm water. Some of the folks on the trip were first time foilers and anxious to learn, while others were just looking to up their game...

Fresh off our surf adventures in Nicaragua…

For the last few years we’ve been hearing more and more stories about the epic surf and consistent off-shore conditions in Nicaragua. So, finally we made it happen. We were fortunate to get to stay at one of the best boutique surf resorts in all of Nicaragua… Malibu Popoyo. Our stay included fantastic meals, luxury accommodations and local surf guides who knew the place inside and out. We rarely get to do the premium lodging… but this time we did. Every morning we’d walk out behind the resort and check the conditions. We were close to a spot called Santana’s, a fast barreling beach break. We’d surf the spot most mornings before breakfast and then again at sunset (pictured below)....
